Outcome

  • Grew organically to around 65,000 followers
  • In the best week, 3.55 million accounts reached and 4.5 million impressions
  • Sold the car for just under €10,000 – after paying €2,500 for it and about €4,000 for parts and workshop. I’d rather not count the hours.
  • Sold the Instagram page for €500. In hindsight a great deal – for the buyer.

Situation

At 16 I wanted a car I could work on myself. It became an old BMW E30 that needed a fair bit of work.

What I did

  • Renewed bodywork, paint and interior piece by piece: a few hundred hours of work, about €4,000 for parts and workshop
  • Built the Instagram page @e30.austria from zero: curated photos from the community, posted regularly, ran polls and Q&As
  • Tested what grows and what doesn’t – without spending a cent on ads
